The last minute rush is on, trying to get off the cards to people you forgot completely. Hoping they will get there in time. It is so nice to ride around and look at the houses all lit up at this time of year. This whole Island is right on the ball with Christmas spirit. Can hardly wait until Christmas Eve to put the tree up. Well, I had better get down to brass tacks now cause I still have a million and one things to do. John J. Thomas, Bills father, came down from New York Wednesday evening and stayed until Sunday. Mom and the girls stayed in the city this weekend to finish up the shopping. Mr. and Mrs. William Mac Reynolds of Idaho Ave., spent Sunday at their home. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gallagher of Beach Ave were also weekenders. Mr. and M rs. Beach Haven Axe Murderer, 1929

New Jersey Courier 2 Aug 1929: BEACH HAVEN AXE MURDERER FOUND INSANE BY JURY Sam Conklin, Who Battered John Carlson's Head With Axe, Called Insane By Dr. Cotton A jury of seven men and five women, taken from the regular petit jury panel of the December term, on Wednesday pronounced Samuel T. Conklin, Beach Haven, as insane and unfit to stand trial for the murder of John Carlson. Conklin had previously, since his arrest, admitted the killing of Carlson on his (Conklin's) houseboat near Beach Haven, on Sunday night, December 16 last in a drunken brawl. Carlson's body was found next morning along the main road to Beach Haven, his head smashed in with an axe, and his face battered. A wide trail showed that the body had been dragged from Conklin's houseboat on the bay shore. Conklin said that they had a quarrel over a sick dog and he had killed Carlson, or the other man would have killed him. Conklin was indicted for murder. Before time for trial, he was said to be ac

News From Beach Haven, 1911

New Jersey Courier 30 Mar 1911 Jesse Sprague, Jr has joined the navy and gone to training quarters at Newport, RI A daughter was born last week to Mr. and Mrs. Allen. Capt A.B. Stratton was about the first to start the flounder fishing succesfully. Mumps are sweeping this part of the beach. Wm. L. Butler has contracts for two new cottages, one on Second street, the other on Bay avenue, for MA Todd and Mrs. Jopsom of Philadelpia. R.F. Engle of Engleside was here last week and will soon be overhauling for the summer business. Eight geese and 23 ducks was the bag of Carrol Stratton and Jim Sprague on windy day in March. Charles Brewer has moved here from Manahawkin in one of the James Welsh houses. Thomas K. Lane has moved into the James Sprague house at North Beach Haven. Charles Beck of Philadelphia is a frequent visitor at his farm here.
