Smoker at the Riverside House, 1900

New Jersey Courier 4 Jan 1900 Harry Eno is probably the son of Byron Eno, who ran a hotel in Lacey.  He was born Aug 1869 in PA and worked as a 'hotel proprietor'. He lived (probaby at the hotel) with parents, Byron E. and Mary), as well as sister Bertha (b. Sep 1871), brother Russel (b. May 1878), and Katie A. (who is Byron's daughter in law, though it's not clear on the census if she's married to Harry or Russel). There is a young  Byron E. (not yet 1), though again, it's not clear who's son he is.  R.C. Eno could be Harry's brother, Russel.  Daniel Holmes appears a few entries away from the Eno hotel on the 1900 census in Lacey.  He was born Dec 1869, and lived with his mother, Carolyn, and sister, Lydia B. (b. Aug 1877), and aunt Margaret Jeffrey (b. Mar 1841). It is not clear who Dr. Wallace is---I found a lot of Wallaces in Lacey in 1900, but none of them were doctors. Likewise with Eugene Bunnell--while that family name is common in Ocean County,

Charles Penn in a stupor, 1900

New Jersey Courier 4 Jan 1900 Looking at the 1900 census for Lacey, this is likely Charles W. Penn, born Oct 1836.  He and his son, George (b. Oct 1866), whom he lived with, were employed as baymen. George married Ada B. (b. Jun 1871) about 1890; by 1900 they had had three children, two of whom were still alive ---Sybil (b. May 1892), and Florence (b. Apr 1900).  B.E. Eno is likely Byron E. Eno, b. Feb 1837 in CT.  He ran a hotel in Lacey Township, where he lived with his wife of 10 years, Mary B. (b. Nov 1841 in CT).  She had borne 10 children, of which six still lived in 1900. Four of them lived in his home in Lacey in 1900: Harry W., b. Aug 1869 in PA Bertha M., b. Sep 1871 in PA Russel, b. May 1878 in PA Mamie J, b. Jun 1880 in PA A daughter-in-law, Katie A. Eno (b. Sep 1871 in NJ) also lived with him, as did grandson Byron E. (b. Jun 1899). (It's not clear from the  census if Katie is married to Harry or Russell). Two African American laborers, James Jones (b. Mar 1871 in MD)
