Charles Penn in a stupor, 1900

Image
New Jersey Courier 4 Jan 1900 Looking at the 1900 census for Lacey, this is likely Charles W. Penn, born Oct 1836.  He and his son, George (b. Oct 1866), whom he lived with, were employed as baymen. George married Ada B. (b. Jun 1871) about 1890; by 1900 they had had three children, two of whom were still alive ---Sybil (b. May 1892), and Florence (b. Apr 1900).  B.E. Eno is likely Byron E. Eno, b. Feb 1837 in CT.  He ran a hotel in Lacey Township, where he lived with his wife of 10 years, Mary B. (b. Nov 1841 in CT).  She had borne 10 children, of which six still lived in 1900. Four of them lived in his home in Lacey in 1900: Harry W., b. Aug 1869 in PA Bertha M., b. Sep 1871 in PA Russel, b. May 1878 in PA Mamie J, b. Jun 1880 in PA A daughter-in-law, Katie A. Eno (b. Sep 1871 in NJ) also lived with him, as did grandson Byron E. (b. Jun 1899). (It's not clear from the  census if Katie is married to Harry or Russell). Two African American laborers, James Jones (b. Mar 1871 in MD)
