John Ashmead Funeral Records These are some excerpts from the recors of John B. Ashmead, Mt. Holly undertaker; he started his business in Philadelphia (1844) and then moved to Mt. Holly in 1849. This list is the names of individuals who payed funeral expenses, and in some cases for whom they payed them. 12 Sept 1845 - Mr Samuel HARBIT of Salem, NJ , for sister Elizabeth. 19 April 1847 - John FORD - hearse to 1 1/2 miles below Woodbury, NJ. 29 June 1847 - Mr. TAYLOR (at Probasco) buried at Camden, NJ (New Town). 1849- 11 June - Mr. CASSADY - for his father 25 Aug - Mrs Martha MARTIN 12 Sept - Friends of the Rev. Charles Anderson's new hearse, 1916

New Jersey Courier 14 Jul 1916 Charles P. Anderson has a new automobile hearse. It was built at Piqua, Ohio, by Meteor Motor Car Company, a concern which builds nothing but hearses, and is 148 inch wheel base, 45 hp. Continental engine, Tymkin axles, Delco ignition system, with electric lights and self starter, and is a jet black over all. The growing use of the automobile at funerals, Mr.Anderson says, convinced him that a hearse of this kind was a necessity.

Suicide of William Aarons, 1907

New Jersey Mirror 12 Jun 1907 The funeral of the late William Aarons took place yesterday. Mr. Aarons was found by one of the employees(sic.) at the Florence Iron Works on Friday , having hung himself to a beam in the barn. The body was warm when found, the examining physician believing the suicide to have been dead about an hour when the body was found. It is said the failure of crops was the cause of his rash deed. The pall bearers were all members of Florence Castle, Knights of the Golden Eagle, of which lodge deceased was a member. They were Albert DuBell, John Spotts, John Bishop, John Rogers, Charles Woolston and George Cottam. Interment at Baptist cemetery.

News From Bayville, 1918

New Jersey Courier 10 May 1918 The Dover Chapel cemetery is being renovated by the Ladies Aid Society. The township has appropriated $50 a year for the upkeep in the future. The accident which occurred at Mott's corner on Saturday night might have been more serious. Mrs. Jesse Grant made a business trip to Asbury Park on Monday. Private Wm. Grant of Camp Dix was a Sunday visitor. Received word that he will soon leave for France. Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Stott and daughter of Brooklyn spent the week at their summer home. The Ladies Aid Society will meet at the home of Mrs. Geo. Ward on Wednesday evening, May 15. Coast Guard Herschel Grant of Deal spent last week at his home here. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Murray attended the funeral of Mrs. Craven in Philadelphia on Sunday. Mrs. Craven was formerly a resident of this place. John Grant and wife and son Fred motored to Asbury Park on Saturday, returned home on Sunday. Miss Etta Danley has returned home after visiting her niece in Fort H
