New Egypt Pres 10 Mar 1905 The report from Ellisdale school for Feb is as follows: Average attendance, 18; percentage of attendance, 87. The names of those who were not absent a day are: Ada Wager, Albert Redfearn, Joseph Sharp, Garwood Jobes, Harvey Sharp, Samuel Sharp, and Harrison Jones.

Murder at Ellisdale, 1937

New Jersey Mirror 28 Jul 1937: Enraged because his wife had bobbed her hair, Joseph Cawley, 55 years old, a laborer, of Ellisdale, shot and severely wounded her on Monday, and then committed suicide with a shotgun. Mrs. Cawley, 45 years old, and the mother of four grown children, was hurried to Mercer Hospital, Trenton, by her son-in-law, Arthur Grover, of Extonville, where it was found that her right hand had been shot three times, and that she had suffered numerous bruises of her face and body where the enraged husband had kicked her. The argument occurred in front of the Cawley home and was witnessed by neighbors. As told by Mrs. Cawley to Grover, the husband asked her to step outside to discuss the matter. They walked through the yard, talking and arguing when suddenly Mrs. Cawley tripped over a broom that she had been carrying.. Without warning, according to Grover, Cawley pulled a .22-calibre revolver from his pocket, pointed it at her head and pulled the trigger. The shot fai

Allentown Messenger 14 May 1908: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Emley, of Ellisdale visited the former's mother, Mrs. Lydia Havens on Monday. Richard Bussom has moved to the California house. Thomas Cawley was given one year in State Prison for stealing chickens. There was no bill found against Walter Greenwood. Harold Woodward returned to Peddie Institute at Hightstown on Monday. He has been home for two months suffering with an abscess on the knee. Miss Mary Harker, of Wrightstown, visited her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Harker on Saturday. Howard Bird, of Princeton and his bride, formerly Miss Delia McCabe of New York, spent a few days last week with the former's sisters, the Misses Maud and Lillie Hamilton. While Frank Emery was driving down the road with Harry Dutcher's team Saturday, near John Meaney's, the bolt came out of the sword, which let the front of the wagon strike the horses' heels. New Egypt Press 21 Apr 1905: Charles Pierce and daughter of Camden have returned home after a short visit with Joseph Pierce. Miss Helen Woodward, of Ellisdale and Miss Ethel Johnson of Rancocas, were Sunday visitors at the home of William Peppler. The Christian Endeavor Society will hold a social on Wednesday.
