Arthur Rider obituary, 1939

From the New Jersey Courier 20 Oct 1939 Captain Arthur H.T. Rider, 73, retired lighthouse keeper, died at his home on South Green street, Tuckerton, on Tuesday morning. His health had failed steadily during the past year. "Captain Arth", as he was called by everyone, was a native of this town, a son of the late Eber and Maryann Rider, but he passed t he greater part of his life in Seahaven or Short Beach where in 1887 he became assistant keeper of the lighthouse, his father being keeper. After the latter's death in 1906, he was soon made a permanent keeper and he held the position until retirement in 1927, after 43 years of government service. He then returned to make Tuckerton his home, the beach having been washed away and the lighthouse toppled into the sea. He married Miss Florence Morss of Jersey City, in 1935. She was his third wife. His first wife was Malinda Andrews and the second was Nellie Falkinburgh. He was a member of the Methodist Church. He was the last

The following Adams family info comes to me from a visitor to my site, ,Jmjcmink. He tells me that he has ancestors from Washington Township and provided this little family info to me: Franklin Adams was the husband of Mary Ann Mathis; he is buried in the Miller Cemetery at New Gretna. Franklin and Mary Ann had a number of children. They were: Willard Adams, who married Laura Falkinburgh Blanchard Adams Calvin Adams Alfred Adams Charlotte Adams Elizabeth Adams, who married Charles Deacon Eugene Adams Mary Adams, who married John Gray Alvah Adams Walter Adams an unnamed child, who apparently died in infancy Unfortunately, I was not provided with any dates for these individuals. News From Barnegat, 1919

from the New Jersey Courier 3 Jan 1919 Gordon Ridgeway and wife are home for the holidays Fred Stephenson and family spent last Wednesday with his mother and sister. Naomi Maloney of Long Branch is visiting Miss Elizabeth Reeves. Mrs. Kate Falkinburgh and son Alton having spent some time with her daughter, Mrs. W. Bailey, at Barnegat City, returned home Thursday. Anderson Pharo of Bayonne spent Sunday with his brother Job and wife. Augustus Tolbert, wife and son Martin; Harry W. Tolbert and wife, motored to Hanover farms on Friday. John Cox and wife were Friday visitors at Philadelphia. Senator D.G. Conrad was a Saturday visitor from Philadelphia. Prof. Brown and wife spent the holidays at her home in Pennsylvania. Roseby Crane and brother of New York spent a few days home with their mother last week. Those who attended the Tall Cedars last Thursday night at Tuckerton were: A.W. Kelly, R.G. Collins, L. News From Barnegat, 1900

From the New Jersey Courier 6 Dec 1900: Thanksgiving day passed off very quietly with us. Union services were held in the Methodist church. Rev. O.W. Wright of the Presbyterian church, preaching the sermon. The collection was given to the Methodist hospital at Philadephia. In the evening a "Yankee" sociable was held in the Presbyterian church and quite a number were present. The program consisted of readings, instrumental and vocal music and a guessing contest, after which enjoyable evening was spent. Ragamuffins as usual infested our town during the day and night, but the participants were mostly of the younger class. A representative of the Sanborn and Perris map company has been in our town the past week making a new insurance map. Among those home from Rider's business college at Trenton for holiday were Joe Storms, Win Predmore, Van Predmore, Clarence Harris and Arthur Ridgway. Among others visitors during the holiday we noticed Miss Nolia Pharo and Miss Emma B
