Ward-Scripture wedding, 1922

Lakewood Citizen, Friday October 27,1922: "Mr Joseph A Ward, son of Mr and Mrs A A Ward, of Central Avenue, and Miss Ruth Scripture, daughter of Mr Scripture, of Newfoundland, NJ were united in marriage on Saturday afternoon at three o'clock. The wedding was given Miss Scripture by her friend, Mrs Ripley, at the Ripley summer home, in Newfoundland, which had been prettily decorated for the occasion with autumn leaves and chrysanthemums, and the ceremony was performed by an uncle of the bride. The only attendants were a brother and a cousin of the bride and Mrs Ripley's little daughter as flower girl. After the ceremony a wedding supper was served the guests who numbered about fifty. Mr and Mrs Ward left for an auto tour through New York State. The groom is well known in Lakewood. He was graduated from the public schools and later from Rutgers College. N J Courier, August 14,1925: "Death this week summoned Augustus A Ward at his home on Central Avenue at an early hour on Tuesday morning. The deceased resided in Lakewood for more than thirty years coming here from Montclair for his health. Had he lived until Monday next he would have been sixty five years of age. It was he who started the business now known as Ward & Ward. For a number of years he was the active head but illness gradually unfitted him for this responsibility and he gave way to his partner John Ward who had been associated with him for some time. Two years ago he retired and the firm was reorganized under the same name. The deceased was born at Montclair where he has a number of relatives. During his residence in Lakewood a large circle of friends was made which remained with him to the end. He was a devout christian man and held membership in the Baptist church of Lakewood. New Jersey Courier 3 Jul 1879 Our farmers are in luck at present as all kinds of farm crops are growing nicely. Chas. S. Grant has, in our opinion, the banner corn field of the shore townships. The huckleberry harvest has begun. A few shipments have already been made from here The asparagus crop is about ended. David Ward has been sending from 75 to 100 bunches a day for the last two months. James P. Lewis, from less than an acre of land, has sent from 35 to 50 bunches per day. C.F. Bunnell is rebuilding his residence here, and the new church has been treated to a coat of paint.

New Jersey Courier 10 May 1918 The Dover Chapel cemetery is being renovated by the Ladies Aid Society. The township has appropriated $50 a year for the upkeep in the future. The accident which occurred at Mott's corner on Saturday night might have been more serious. Mrs. Jesse Grant made a business trip to Asbury Park on Monday. Private Wm. Grant of Camp Dix was a Sunday visitor. Received word that he will soon leave for France. Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Stott and daughter of Brooklyn spent the week at their summer home. The Ladies Aid Society will meet at the home of Mrs. Geo. Ward on Wednesday evening, May 15. Coast Guard Herschel Grant of Deal spent last week at his home here. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Murray attended the funeral of Mrs. Craven in Philadelphia on Sunday. Mrs. Craven was formerly a resident of this place. John Grant and wife and son Fred motored to Asbury Park on Saturday, returned home on Sunday. Miss Etta Danley has returned home after visiting her niece in Fort H
