Ward-Scripture wedding, 1922

Lakewood Citizen, Friday October 27,1922: "Mr Joseph A Ward, son of Mr and Mrs A A Ward, of Central Avenue, and Miss Ruth Scripture, daughter of Mr Scripture, of Newfoundland, NJ were united in marriage on Saturday afternoon at three o'clock. The wedding was given Miss Scripture by her friend, Mrs Ripley, at the Ripley summer home, in Newfoundland, which had been prettily decorated for the occasion with autumn leaves and chrysanthemums, and the ceremony was performed by an uncle of the bride. The only attendants were a brother and a cousin of the bride and Mrs Ripley's little daughter as flower girl. After the ceremony a wedding supper was served the guests who numbered about fifty. Mr and Mrs Ward left for an auto tour through New York State. The groom is well known in Lakewood. He was graduated from the public schools and later from Rutgers College. Lakewood Citizen, Friday October 27,1922: "Miss Adele Moller, daughter of Mr and Mrs Frederick Moller of Birch Street, was married at Chicago on Monday to Louis G Davis. Miss Moller had lived in New York for the past few years. and it was there she met Mr Davies. Recently Mr Davies accepted a position in Chicago and settled there. Miss Moller attended the Lakewood Schools and has a large circle of friends and acquaintances here".

ONE KILLED, FOUR SHOT IN RUM RUNNER FIGHT, 1923

New Jersey Courier 26 Oct 1923 ONE KILLED, FOUR SHOT IN RUM RUNNER FIGHT One man was killed and four others are known to have been wounded in a fight between Atlantic Highlands rum-runners, smugglers, and a crew of high-jackers, from Newark, who are alleged to have held up and robbed the rum-runners at various times of both rum and cash. The fight was on last Saturday night. Frank Laconti, of Newark, found near the scene of the battle with a bullet through his abdomen, afterward died at the Monmouth Hospital, Long Branch. Six other men are under arrest, as follows: Henry Butterfield, G. Butterfield and George Nettiger, all of Atlantic Highlands. They are held in $5000 bail each. Henry Butterfield suffers a bullet wound through his left shoulder. His condition is not serious. They are held on charges of atrocious assault and battery with intent to kill.
