Lighting storm, 1916

New Jersey Courier 21 Jul 1916
The electrical storm of Thursday night, July 13, played many pranks in this section, and pretty well demoralized electric light service for the time being. It kept the force of local company busy repairing damage it had done.
The queerest prank was at Hooper and Dayton avenues, where it supposedly melted off a wire and ran the electric current into the ground. It is claimed that the next morning the ground around an electric light pole on that corner was so charged with electricity that a horse stepping upon it fell down, and a cat running over it was nearly killed.
