Benjamin Evernham fights off shark at Asbury, 1916

Benjamin Evernham, a Toms River man, who is lifeguard at Asbury Park, got his name in all the papers the past week during the shark scare, a newspaper reporter writing a glowing tale about a battle Evernham had with a shark, while patrolling outside the bathing beach in a lifeboat--according to the story, he beat the shark off with his oars.
